Open Access Resources

AU Press is proud to be the first open access press established in Canada. Below you will find resources where you can learn more about open access and how it is a critical component of scholarship in Canada.

Open Access and the ASPP: This policy position from the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences supports open access.

Tri-Agency Open Access Policy on Publications: The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) support open access in this joint policy.

Open Access Week is an annual online event that advocates for open access and celebrates its achievements.

Creative Commons has been involved in conversations surrounding the open movement since the very beginning. Their licenses are used to protect many open access materials.

Open access materials are freely accessible but not free to produce. “The Costs of Publishing Monographs: Toward a Transparent Methodology” is a useful report that looks at the university press business model and the cost of individual monographs.

The Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Sciences and Humanities helps to define what open access is and why it is important.

“Monograph Publishing in an Open Access Context” is a report from the Association of Canadian University Presses produced in 2014.
